The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

The Bedford Lib Dems have elected their new officers and spokespeople on Bedford Borough Council.
Liberal Democrats on Bedford Borough Council were effectively gagged when they attempted to propose a change to the council's spending policy. The only way they were able to challenge the build up of council reserves was by raising a petition.
Local Lib Dems have slammed this year's huge Council Tax rises from the ruling Conservative Councils. Both the District and County Councils raised Council Tax by over 4 times the current rate of inflation!
Yesterday's elections in Bedford Borough saw the Lib Dems move into second place in votes across the whole Borough. This makes the Lib Dems the key challengers for the Mayoral Election in October.
The Liberal Democrats are fielding a full 54 candidates across Bedford Borough for the May 2002 local elections - 9 more than Labour.
