Save our green belt
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Taxpayers cannot continue to dole out money to Northern Rock says Cable
Northern Rock may have borrowed as much as £29 billion from the Bank of England since its crisis began, after a jump in loans last week, according to Bank of England data. Northern Rock is likely to have borrowed 2.7 billion pounds last week, up from an estimated 1.1 billion pounds in the previous week, the latest Bank of England balance sheet data showed on Thursday. That would be the biggest weekly loan for five weeks.

Rowen backs sun bed ban for under 18s
Rochdale MP Paul Rowen is supporting a proposed ban on under 18s using coin operated sun beds. The ban is due to announced by Health Secretary Alan Johnson MP in the long-awaited 'NHS cancer reform strategy'.

Rowen takes Ding Quarry fight to Parliament
Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has taken the fight against Ding Quarry to Parliament. Mr Rowen said: "I promised that I would raise this issue in Parliament and I have and will continue to do so. From my discussions in Parliament it seems that this is a problem that is going to face dozens of areas in the North West.
