The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Influential study backs local income tax

The influential Chartered Institute of Public Finance today told a committee chaired by Local Government Minister, Nick Raynsford that local income tax could be a 'realistic option'. This confirms the Liberal Democrat policy to replace the unfair council tax with a local income tax.

Serena Tierney, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Mid Sussex , has written to local Tory and Labour councillors urging them to vote for the Lib Dem amendment to the MSDC budget to save the funding of Citizens Advice Bureaux, Age Concern and Bluebird Community Transport.

Totnes Lib Dems prepare for European campaign with a visit to Brussels.

Totnes PPC, Mike Treleaven, his wife Elaine and constituency chairman John Stevens with his wife Sheila took advantage of a Lawrence Fullick organised LDEG visit to the European Parliament last week. In an action packed 2 days they met with many of the Euro MEPs, representatives of the Commission and local Liberal Democrat members.
