A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

A new Leader for the Liberal Democrats

The new leader of the national Liberal Democrat party is currently being chosen by the party's thousands of ordinary members, on the basis of "one member - one vote" using the democratic Single Transferable Vote system by ranking the three candidates in order of preference. The deadline for ballot papers is 1st March and the name of the new Leader will be announced on 2nd March in time for the party's Spring Conference at Harrogate, starting on 3rd March.

Regional Conference This Weekend

Our Regional Spring Conference will be held at County Hall in Northallerton this Saturday and promises to be an energetic affair. Members have been re-invigorated by the recent Lib Dem victory by Willie Rennie in Dunfermline. We all needed to be reminded just how little the public trusts the 'flip-flopping' Tories and how we are recognised as being the only antidote to years of blairite authoritarianism and spin.
