A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Time to Raise Awareness of Free School Transport

Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats are concerned that large numbers of children could be missing out on free school transport because families are not aware of the support available. School transport is free for children who are eligible for free school meals or whose families receive the full level of Working Families Tax Credit, provided they live a certain distance from their school. Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats are encouraging the council and individual schools to raise awareness of the support which exists.

Six to fix

Epping Forest Liberal Democrats work hard all year round. Over the past few months Councillor Ann Haigh and Councillor Janet Whitehouse and the Lib Dem Team have been out and about talking with residents about issues that matter to them.

Identity Cards - RA Party sits on the fence

A proposal clarifying that Epsom & Ewell Borough Council will not voluntarily ask residents to show ID Cards or add residents' details to the National Database was defeated recently by RA Party councillors. Instead they agreed not to decide their policy until after the government announces whether they will force councils to insist on seeing ID cards and hand over residents' data.
