The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

It was an eventful Finchley and Golders Green Planning Sub Committee last Wednesday evening. The public gallery was standing room only, the main interest being a planning application for an orthodox Jewish School in Golders Green Road.

MEP calls for more research on phone mast radiation

Wolverhampton's Liberal Democrat Euro MP Liz Lynne has tabled a written declaration in the European Parliament calling for more research after visiting a huge mobile phone mast in the Black Country which regulator OFCOM has recently described as the biggest emitter of electro- magnetic radiation in England.

Lib Dems Challenge Audit Inspection Letter

At a recent meeting of the Strategy & Resources Committee the borough council's annual Audit Commission letter for 2007/8 was found to contain factual inaccuracies but at least it was acknowledged that on recycling the council has "moved out of the worst 25% of councils"!

Event: Nick Clegg speaking on Europe

Nick Clegg will be giving a speech entitled "Stronger Together: A Liberal Future for Europe" on Monday 20th April 2009 between 1pm and 2pm at the London Stock Exchange. This is a "Business for New Europe" event at which Nick will outline why Britain is safer and stronger as a committed member of the European Union. Focusing on economic security during the global recession, the fight against climate change and ongoing efforts to tackle cross-border crime and terrorism, he will explain why joint action is the best way for Britain and our European allies to tackle international problems. The event will be moderated by Roland Rudd (Chairman, Business for New Europe).
