Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Moulsham Youth Centre re-opened

Great news for parents. The Moulsham Youth Centre re-opened on Wednesday 25th July and is open every Wednesday during the School holidays with two sessions. Session 1 for youngsters with ages of 8 to 11 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm and Session 2 will be for the older group of 12's to 16's from 7.00pm to 9.30pm. If successful it will be opened every Wednesday with all ranges of youth activities taking place under the guidance of PCSO Sandra Strange and helpers.

Lib Dems plan air tax to aid rail

The Liberal Democrats say they would put an extra £10 tax per ticket on internal flights in Britain to help fund improvements to the rail network. They are also proposing to put a toll on road freight, while encouraging private investment in railways. The party says it would generate £12bn in five years and be a temporary measure, without specifying how long. The proposals are part of a package aimed at making Britain's transport system carbon neutral by 2050. So-called "lifeline" air routes, such as links between the Orkneys and Shetland and the mainland where travel options are limited, would not be taxed.
