A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Chancellor knew he was selling Lloyds a lemon - Cable

Commenting on revelations today that RBS and HBOS were lent £61.6bn in emergency funding last autumn at the height of the financial panic, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable said "Given the sheer size of the support these two banks were receiving, it is astonishing that this was kept secret for over a year. The Government has treated taxpayers like children while expecting them to foot the bill for these banks."

Dungeness: The REAL Nuclear Option

It's easy - and understandable - for the recent decision on Dungeness to be seen as a hammer blow to the Marsh economy. The decision to provisionally exclude Dungeness from the list of 10 sites being considered for new Nuclear build seems to put at threat the potential of 600 local jobs - maybe more. Of course we want those jobs locally, and Dungeness has a long and proud association with the safe generation of nuclear power.
