A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Help shape our next manifesto

For the next election the Liberal Democrats will produce a web-based interactive manifesto, which will use audio-visual communications as its centrepiece rather than the written word. To work towards that, a discussion site for party members has been launched allowing party members - including members of DELGA - to influence the tone and direction of the final manifesto. Commenting, Steve Webb said:"This site is all about giving party members a real say in our manifesto for the next General Election. Unlike the other parties, we want a genuine conversation, and the manifesto we produce will be better as a result.

The Year of the Boar

One of the many benefits of being part of a half Chinese household, apart from the excellent food, is that you get to celebrate New Year twice a year! So, I begin this month by wishing you Gong Xi Fa Cai (congratulations and be prosperous). Chinese New Year (which is also called Spring Festival) will be on the 18th February and it is going to be the Year of the Boar (Pig).
