A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Paul Rowen MP - Fighting for Rochdale

Letter from Parliament - Paul Rowen MP

Can I begin by congratulating Councillor Alan Taylor and his team of Liberal Democrat Councillors on a fantastic result in last weeks local elections. Throughout the campaign they focussed on the positive things they are doing to improve Rochdale rather than the negative tactics of our opponents. They now have two years to get on with the job!

Paul Rowen MP - Holding Brown to account

3,000 locals miss out on 'by-election bribe!'

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has attacked Gordon Brown's plans to compensate low paid workers affected by the 10p income tax disaster. Over 3000* people in the Rochdale Borough will still be affected by the 10p tax debacle and the MP says that the Labour Government are lurching from 'one mess to another." In what has been described as a 'last throw of the dice' - the Chancellor Alastair Darling MP announced a £2.7bn tax cut. It is not clear where the Chancellor will find this money.
