Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? President Bush should not raise stakes on Iran

US President Bush gave warning last night that Iran's pursuit of the atomic bomb could lead to a nuclear holocaust in the Middle East, and promised to confront Tehran "before it is too late". Mr Bush's remarks, the starkest warning that he has made about Iran's nuclear ambitions, came hours after President Ahmadinejad of Iran said that a power vacuum was imminent in Iraq and that Tehran was ready to fill it. Although Mr Ahmadinejad revels in making provocative statements, his latest remarks will increase the fears in Washington and among its moderate Sunni allies in the region that an Iranian-dominated Iraq would trigger a regional war between Sunnis and Shias.

John Hemming challenges the Government to act now to save historic buildings in the West Midlands

John Hemming MP, Shadow Minister for the West Midlands, has written to challenge Liam Byrne to act to save historic buildings in the West Midlands before they are lost forever. An analysis performed by the Liberal Democrats based upon English Heritage's Register of Buildings at Risk has found 179 buildings with a Conservation Deficit of £65 Million Pounds in the West Midlands.

Cheriton Interchange: Temporary Speed Restriction

Kent County Council have advertised a 30mph speed restriction which will be put in force for around 8 weeks from 3rd September on Cheriton Interchange near junction 12 of the M20.

Lib Dems were out in force again at Manchester's LGBT Pride festival this weekend. Our Lifestyle Expo stall - despite being in a much less prominent location than last year - garnered many more signatures for the Stop Homophobic Bullying campaign.
