The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Famous composer sends Mike Treleaven on the march to victory.

Composer Ed Welch, a Totnes Constituency activist and well known composer, recently composed a march for Totnes PPC Mike Treleaven. Known as 'Mike's March' the tune is being released to local radio stations and played at local party events. Ed is well known as the composer of several TV signature tunes including the National Lottery, One Foot in the Grave and Countdown. He has written the scores for films such as 'Snow Goose' and 'The 39 Steps', conducted orchestras, worked extensively with Spike Milligan and is currently working on the music for the next 'Thomas the Tank Engine' series.

The Daily Express yesterday reported that the campaign to grant British citizenship for the retired Gurkhas took a step forward on Tuesday when Tony Blair hinted he may be ready to drop the ban on Gurkha heroes remaining in Britain. He promised action within "weeks".

Totnes Liberal Democrats get their teeth into Kingsbridge Show

For the third successive year Totnes Liberal Democrats took a stand at Kingsbridge Agricultural Show, one of the biggest in the Totnes Constituency. Over 400 people signed their petition to make National Health Dentistry available to all and the stand was awash with visitors all day. Speaking afterwards Totnes PPC, Mike Treleaven said:
