Dundee LibDems reiterate concerns over ID Cards cost
Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Sunday 14th May) reiterated their opposition to the "New Labour" Government's ID cards scheme and the spiraling costs of this ill-judged policy.
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Local MP, Tim Farron, highlighted the need on Wednesday for hill farmers to be given a fair deal by the Government. The Hill Farm Allowance, which rewards hill farmers for their stewardship of the land, is due to be replaced by a new reward structure in 2007. DEFRA is currently carrying out a consultation process on the new system.
