A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Proud to back the Gurkha cause

It was with great pride, I took part in the demonstration outside the High Court in London this week, standing alongside hundreds of retired Gurkha's. The demonstration had been organised to show the world how badly this country treats its best soldiers, with no right to remain in this country if they retired before 1997, even after giving 24 years of their lives to defend this country.

Bus Pass saga continues in penny pinching SKDC - suggestion from a resident

This email came through from a Mr. Doughty, have any of you tried this? We did ask at the Stamford Town Forum whether what Mr. Doughty's suggests could be done and the answer was a simple NO. Why? By the way if SKDC introduced a start time of 8.30am for the bus passes in line with other Six District Councils, the cost to them would be at the most £17000. We can't see why you can't do what Mr. Doughty has suggested.
