A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Human Trafficking has to be stopped

In the early 1800s the abolitionist movement recognised that all men, women and children have the right to live their lives free from bondage. They ensured that slavery in the UK would be outlawed indefinitely. However, 200 years after their success, we live in a world with a greater number of slaves than there were during the time of William Wilberforce. This fact is a stain on our society and one many people are working very hard to reverse.

Tories Admit Failure of Communication

Liberal Democrats on North Yorkshire County Council are concerned about the failure of the Conservative-run council to adequately promote adult learning courses. The number of adult learners in the county has gone down this year, and Lib Dems fear it is due to over-reliance on the North Yorkshire Times, the council's publicity paper, to promote courses.
