The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Farron calls for animal movement restrictions to be reviewed

Local MP, Tim Farron is today urging Ministers to allow farmers to move livestock between farms as soon as possible, this move is essential for animal welfare and to prevent overgrazing and damage to our countryside landscape. Secondly, Mr Farron is calling for general animal movement restrictions to be relaxed on a regional basis to enable sales to take place.

"Hill Farm Allowance top-up needed now" - Farron

Liberal Democrat MP and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Hill Farming Group Tim Farron has today urged DEFRA Ministers to ensure that the promised top up of the Hill Farm Allowance following the foot and mouth outbreak this summer will be issued to farmers as soon as possible. The Rural Payments Agency recently confirmed that the payments would be made by the end of October.

Boost for child disabilities fund

Extra funding is being made available in part of Cumbria for children with special needs and disabilities. Annual funds were increased from £6,000 to £11,302 at the county council's Eden Local Committee meeting.
