Save our green belt
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Paul Holmes MP opens ECOskies Renewable Energy Training Centre
Chesterfield MP Paul Holmes today officially opened the ECOskies Renewable Energy Training Centre at Markham Vale. The fantastic new training centre is on the M1 Commerce Park, near the new junction 29a. The centre is the country's first dedicated renewable energy training centre offering courses for installers in renewable energy technologies including: solar hot water, solar photovoltaic, wind turbines, ground-source and air-source heat pumps.

New ID Cards costings show scheme an even bigger waste of money
The projected cost of the identity card scheme will be £5.612bn over the next 10 years, the Home Office announced today. The cost figures, which are for October 2007 to October 2017, cover set up and the operational expenses of the scheme.

Young People are a Priority
Epsom & Ewell Borough Council has agreed that providing facilities for young people, specifically 11 - 19 year olds, should be a priority over the next few years in local recreation grounds. The proposal, put forward by the Lib Dems at October's meeting of the Leisure Committee, will be taken forward by the council.
