A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Radical new tax package will help the poorest and safeguard the environment

Today at Conference the Liberal Democrats supported the biggest overhaul to British tax policy in modern times. The unamended motion will make the 'Green Switch', by shifting taxes from positive things such as work onto negative things which damage the environment. It may even see the other two major parties now looking at adopting a similar approach in the race to prove which is the greenest of them all. It will prove a particular challenge to Tory leader David Cameron who has put huge effort into winning green credentials for his party.

"SNP claims about LibDems show they are worried," say Dundee Liberal Democrats

Dundee Liberal Democrat spokesperson Allan Petrie today (Tuesday 19th September) said that the comments of the Dundee East SNP MP criticising LibDem Green Tax proposals had "more to do with their fears about the growing LibDem presence in Dundee than any form of real analysis of the Liberal Democrats' plans for a Green Tax Switch."
