Labour Must Compensate Victorious Pensioners
Commenting on the High Court's ruling that workers who lost their company pensions have won their High Court case against the Government today, Paul Holmes, Liberal Democrat MP for Chesterfield said:
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Dundee City Council has tonight (Tuesday 20th February) frozen its council tax for the 2007/08 financial year. The Band D figure will remain at £1 211 for the second year running.
Once again Wolverhampton's Labour controlled Council is raising council tax by an inflation beating increase, this time of 4.8%. Yet neighbouring councils have been able to keep their increase to below 4%. In fact the only year in recent memory when tax did not rise was in 1994 when the Liberal Democrats had a controlling influence on power in Wolverhampton.
Following reports that the United States are preparing for air strikes on Iran beyond nuclear sites. Liberal Democrat Leader Menzies Campbell has called on the Prime Minister to come to Parliament and make a statement on the government's policy towards Iran.
