Orkney and Shetland MP, Alistair Carmichael, has today led an Urgent Question in the House of Commons on the implications of last week’s Budget for farming communities.
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. The Council has passed a motion originally submitted by the Liberal Democrat group in support of proportional representation and wider electoral reform.
“I am relieved this proposal has now been cancelled as the scheme was, in my view, too extensive and too expensive, and would have remained in planning for many years to come."
