Bollard scheme to solve parking problem
PARKING problems have driven Epping town councillors to spend over £3,000 on parking bollards across the entrance of the Epping Hall.
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Stockton Liberal Democrat Group Leader, Maureen Rigg, has welcomed the introduction of a bill to cut down on excessive packaging. Jo Swinson, MP, introduced her bill yesterday into Parliament calling for the establishment of a national body to promote and enforce packaging reduction; to make provision for the disposal of packaging by certain retailers and to establish binding targets for the reduction of packaging. Stockton Liberal Democrats had already supported a motion at their party conference in September on the same matter.

Gordon Brown should show he is not afraid of the ballot box by holding a referendum on Britain's membership of the EU, Liberal Democrat acting leader, Vince Cable MP said yesterday. Speaking as the Prime Minister reported back to MPs after the Lisbon summit, Dr Cable said such a referendum would lead to an honest debate on the issue. The Liberal Democrats believe the current reform treaty does not require a referendum, but that the cumulative effect of changes to the EU since 1975 - including the Single European Act and Maastricht - mean there should now be a vote to reaffirm British membership.
Tim Farron MP is calling for a fresh look at the cost of public transport for young people, together with how buses are subsidised.
Local MP, Tim Farron has received assurances from the Health Minister Ivan Lewis that the mental health ward at Westmorland General Hospital, Ward 4, could not be permanently closed or downgraded without full public consultation. In response to a parliamentary question tabled by Mr Farron, the Minister said that the Trust had a 'responsibility' to consult fully.
