Action from Sandgate campaigner Season Prater has convinced Shepway Council to take action on overflowing residents bins for flats above the Enbrook Valley shops in Golden Valley, Sandgate. The shutdown of the Ineos oil refinery at Grangemouth in central Scotland has been completed, the company has said. The 1,700-acre plant is being closed in preparation for a two-day strike by staff over pension changes, which is due to start on Sunday. BP has said that if the action goes ahead, it will have to close the Forties oil pipeline, which links North Sea oil production with Grangemouth, delivering 30% of the UK's oil output.

A disabled woman has won £1,000 from Tesco after a court said it had discriminated against her by not allowing staff to pump up her tyres. Grandmother Jenni Crowly, from Connah's Quay, Flintshire, said the win was not only a victory for her, but also for disabled people.
