A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

The problem was identified as a cable failure, necessitating 18 new lamp posts. Promised completion dates came and went. So at the June Local Committee Colin demanded a full explanation of the apparent lack of urgency.

Tories stash away YOUR money for pre-election bribe

Local Conservatives are underspending on council services and storing up millions of pounds in reserve funds, according to their OWN report. The report, on Essex County Council finances for 2007/08, was approved at a meeting of the council's cabinet at county hall.

Back our Post Offices - save the card account

Chelmsford Liberal Democrats are backing calls to save the Post Office card account, which currently helps keep open local post offices around the country. The Government has added uncertainty to the future of the Post Office network by putting the Post Office Card Account (POCA) out to tender. If another organisation such as PayPoint or an international bank wins the tender, the Post Office Network will lose a vital part of their business, with further closures likely.
