The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Fire Service call centre closure would put local lives at risk- Farron meets local Officers' to back their campaign

South Lakeland MP Tim Farron has met with a group of local firefighters from Cumbria to discuss the government's FireControl Project which plans to close down Cumbria 's fire emergency control room and relocate it to a single centre in Warrington . This would also lead to a reduction of two-thirds of the call centre staff. Tim met with the firefighters at the House of Commons.

Change of ownership at Gatwick should not mean any additional runway

Responding to a question from East Grinstead Councillor Jean Glynn, at the South East Liberal Democrat Regional Conference on Saturday, Norman Baker, MP for Lewes, restated Liberal Democrat opposition to any expansion of runway capacity at Gatwick Airport following the change of ownership of the airport.
