A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

19 out of 20 want cardboard and plastic recycling - Lib Dem Survey

A new Survey by Lib Dems in the Lawns area shows an overwhelming 19 out of 20 people want cardboard and plastic recycling. Robin Stevens, Lib Dem Candidate for the Lawns by-election said, "I'm glad that so many of my neighbours agree with me over recycling priorities, which are important for the health of our community. I was saddened that the Tory ruling group on the Council went for the easy option and slashed these recycling targets."

Mark Oaten, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs spokesperson said "It is good that the Home Secretary has seen sense on the deportation rules. We broadly welcome the use of powers to deport people, as long as the individuals involved have a right to appeal and the case for deportation is reasonable."
