Liberal Democrats in Blackburn made a net gain of 2 seats from Labour in the Local Elections on May 5. This increased their representation on Blackburn with Darwen Council to 13. Lib Dems gained Audley, Bastwell and Shear Brow from Labour, but lost one seat, Little Harwood to Labour. They cam close to gaining another seat in the Sudell Ward in Darwen, Tony Melia failing to gain the seat by only 12 votes.
Raymond Lawrie, Dundee's Liberal Democrat local party Convener today (Friday 5th May) welcomed news that, with results from 175 out of 176 councils now in, the BBC's projected national share of the vote based on the 2006 local elections in England puts the Lib Dems at 27%, ahead of Labour on this measure for only the second time.
