The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Maureen discovers Shepway to CUT Plastic Bottle Recycling

Lib Dem campaigner and keen re-cycler Maureen Speller has discovered that the plastic bottles skip at the Ross Way waste centre will be withdrawn on 31 March this year. The cut will come as a blow to those who do not have doorstep recycling collection (in particular those in flats) as it will make it harder to recycle these materials.

Computer therapy access 'for all'

Computer-based therapy should be available to all patients in England from April, says the government. Patients with mild depression or anxiety should receive therapy instead of drugs, but there are long waiting lists around the country. A trial of one computer programme - 'Beating the Blues' - found it more cost-effective than other treatments.

Half of Stoke South Tories resign!

Half of the Conservatives in Stoke-on-Trent South have resigned from the party in a bitter row with former political allies.The split involves allegations of mismanagement of city council funds. Authority managers, the police and the Standards Board for England have been asked to launch inquiries.
