Save our green belt
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Our hospital should end its "tax on the sick"
NHS hospitals in Chelmsford collected £1 million in car park charges last year (across Essex £3.5 million and £110m across the country), research by the Liberal Democrats has revealed. Local Lib Dem campaigner Stephen Robinson and other residents raised the subject at last night's Hospital Trust AGM.

Labour offers too little too late on electoral reform
In his conference speech Gordon Brown announced a package of constitutional reforms. In particular he announced plans to hold a referendum on whether to replace the first past the post voting system with the Alternative Vote (AV) early in the next Parliament - assuming Labour wins the next election. This is almost the very definition of too little, too late. While AV would give the voter somewhat more choice, it is not proportional. Promising a referendum after the general election is meaningless: remember when Labour promised this in 1997?

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen is urging local residents to go along and get their eyes tested after it was recently revealed that many serious conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy are not being detected early enough.
