A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

New petrol station proposed for Tettenhall Road

Claire Darke, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Park Ward in May's local council elections, has welcomed the proposal for the re-opening a petrol station on Tettenhall Road near the Newbridge Inn. Since the former Esso petrol station closed more than two years ago residents of Clark Road, Larches Lane, Haden Hill and other roads feeding into Tettenhall Road have suffered from traffic backing up due to the over use of the existing Shell station at the corner of Clarke Road.

Rights Commission to champion case law

DELGA has welcomed the news that the new Equality and Human Rights Commission has given a commitment to prioritise legal cases in new areas of equality, including sexual orientation, to help start to build case law. DELGA Chair Jen Yockney said, "while winning legal rights to equality has been an important step, we now need to help bisexual, lesbian, gay and transgender people to understand the rights they now have, and to be able to act upon them. Test cases will send important signals both to LGBT people and to employers, businesses and wider society about how things have changed."
