A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Cllr. Smith-Hughes "Tory County driving coach & horses through Town Centre vision

Tory County plans will make Chelmsford a Raceway

Lib Dem Borough Councillors have slammed Tory County plans for a one-way circle which could turn Chelmsford into a racetrack. Lib Dem Tom Smith-Hughes said, "Despite the Borough Council's Town Centre vision for a greener and pedestrian-safe environment, County traffic bosses have driven a coach and horses through it as they obviously consider their priorities more important." Lib Dem leader Cllr. Chris Rycroft commented, "This is a blatant disregard for the future of Chelmsford Town Centre. It will turn Chelmsford into Le Mans, and I can't see how it would have any effect on Chelmsford's log jams.

Government proposals may spell the end for Kent Police

Kent Police may be amalgamated with the Surrey and Sussex forces in a series of proposals put forward by the home secretary Charles Clarke. The restructuring proposals, which could see the number of police forces in England and Wales reduced from 43 to 12, were announced by Mr Clarke on Thursday as part of an ongoing review.
