Save our green belt
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Number of prisoners in England and Wales hits record high!
Official figures suggest there were 81,135 people locked up in jails and in police stations in England and Wales on 27 September - a record high. This exceeds the previous record of 81,040 inmates reached at the end of June, when the government's emergency early release scheme came into effect. Of the total, 80,803 are held in prisons and 332 in police cells. There are now just 780 spaces remaining to house new criminals.

Hythe Town Beat Dover in FA Cup Qualifier
Hythe Town Football Club celebrated a 2-1 win against Dover Athletic at Reachfields on Saturday. Ex-Mayor of Hythe Neil Matthews was at the match to cheer on Hythe and delighted with result and the boost to the town.

Councillor slams police
Councillor Jean Ashworth has slammed Rochdale Police following a call she made about a group of between 30 and 40 Asian youths she witnessed smahing a car up on Woodbine Street on Sunday evening (30 September). The car had been abandoned in the street two weeks ago and Councillor Ashworth had reported it last week when there was very little damage to it other than a dent on the drivers side.
