A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Biddenham village sign

Biddenham fete

I went along to the Biddenham village fete today and enjoyed the fete where I met with friends and the sunshine. There were lots of interesting stalls including produce and crafts such as jewellery. And have you ever seen a "human fruit machine"?

Dave Hodgson awarding a certificate at Mile Road Allotments Open Day

Allotments Open Day

On Saturday I was invited to Mile Road allotments to help judge some prizes! Although I am sometimes known tongue-in-cheek as "Farmer Dave" due to my relatively late conversion to gardening, I will admit I'm no expert, but I did my best. I'd give prizes to everyone who has the energy and "stick-at-it-ability" to tend an allotment but apparently that wasn't allowed.

Barnet's signs shows the Council doesn't know which way it's going

Any which way

Leader of Barnet Liberal Democrats Cllr Jack Cohen is wondering if Barnet Council's left hand knows what its right hand is doing. An eagle eyed resident spotted this odd street signage in West Finchley. Cllr Cohen complains this is yet another example of waste of council taxpayers' money. Cllr Cohen wonders how "any one can have faith in a Council that quite frankly doesn't know where it is going"
