The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Beaumont elected as new leader of Shepway Lib Dem Group

Cllr Lynne Beaumont has been elected as the new leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Shepway District Council. Cllr Beaumont was elected by a convincing margin at a special meeting on Thursday 15th December. She replaces Cllr David Dickinson who is stepping down, as he does not intend to stand for the district council again in 2007.

Dundee Liberal Democrat Local Party Convener, Raymond Lawrie, has today welcomed news that the European Parliament has adopted a new Regulation giving disabled air passengers new rights when travelling by air, aimed to ensure that recent cases of airlines refusing to carry such passengers because of their disability are a thing of the past.

People in Kent have delivered a resounding 'yes' vote to retain their own county police force. Kent Police Authority was told at a meeting on Wednesday 14 December that nearly four out of five people do not want their police service to merge with others under Home Office proposals to create new strategic regional forces.

Liberal Democrats call for investigation into Rendition flights

At Prime Minister's Questions today Liberal Democrat Leader Charles Kennedy MP challenged Tony Blair to hold an enquiry into rendition flights. This follows claims that MI6 officers interrogated a former UK student in Pakistan and then handed him to the CIA for 'extraordinary rendition' and torture.
