The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Stacks Back: French Port Blockade Forces M20 Coastbound Closure

Strike action by French fishermen has led to the implementation of Operation Stack on the M20 in Kent to ease jams caused by Dover-bound lorries. The Port of Dover to all ferry traffic after the ports of Calais, Dunkirk and Boulogne were blockaded, and there have been no sailings since 6am.

The Second Division Play-Off Final between Rochdale AFC and Stockport County is a huge talking point amongst MPs. The rivalry though has not stopped three MPs joining forces and praising the achievements of both clubs. Paul Rowen (Rochdale), Mark Hunter (Cheadle) and Andrew Stunell (Hazel Grove) have put in an Early Day Motion into Parliament.

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has signed up to a campaign to get Rugby League classified as a 'Class A' sport. He was reacting after Sport England's controversial banding (Class B) of the popular local sport. The banding affects the money going into the grass roots level sport though the Community Club Development Programme.

Mehdi Kazemi granted asylum in UK

After a long battle which has been covered in many national newspapers, DELGA have welcomed the announcement today that Mehdi Kazemi, an Iranian who said he would be killed if returned to his homeland because of his sexual orientation, has at last been granted asylum in the UK.
