The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Council Leader - celebrating our success in Council Speech!

In an upbeat leader's speech to the recent full council meeting, Council Leader Alan Taylor praised the achievements of council staff who he said "work hard day in, day out to improve the quality of life for people in the Borough" and added that it is "only right that we recognise and celebrate their successes, especially when they go beyond the call of duty".

Chelmsford Lib Dem Stephen Robinson attended a briefing for Parliamentary Candidates from winnable seats at the House of Lords this week. The briefing included a tour of the House of Lords, seeing Question Time in the chamber and discussions about the role of peers in holding the Government to account, where the Lib Dems can hold the balance of power.

Farron meets with Border bosses

Local MP Tim Farron met today with ITV Executive Chairman Michael Grade, along with a delegation of other MPs from the Border region to discuss ITV's proposal to axe Border TV in favour of broadcasting from Tyne-Tees TV instead. Mr Farron has also tabled a Commons motion in protest against the plans to shut down one of the most popular regional television broadcasters in the country.

MP calls for moratorium on post office closures

Local MP Tim Farron has today tabled a Commons motion protesting against the Government's intention to press ahead with the plans to close up to 2,500 local post office branches, many of which will be in Tim's constituency. The motion calls on the Prime Minister to put a stop to plans until the Sustainable Communities Bill, backed by the Liberal Democrats from day one, comes into effect.
