The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Nick Clegg attends protest calling for greater rights for Gurkhas

On Wednesday 19th March, Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg will be speaking at the protest outside Parliament demanding increased rights for Gurkhas. Shepway Lib Dems are supporting the Gurkhas protest, with local members Dhan Gurung, Peter Carroll, Neil Matthews, Darren Briddock, Tim Prater and others planning on joining the protest in Parliament Square.

Disabled man's home 'unsuitable'

A disabled man is being forced to live downstairs because his council home is completely unsuitable, his family says. Malcolm Bowers, from Redditch, Worcs, suffered a stroke 20 months ago and his family has been asking the council to find suitable accommodation.

Trading Standards Warn on Lydd Door-to-Door Buyer

Kent Trading Standards have received information that a person is offering to buy jewellery and antique furniture from householders in Lydd. The person has posted leaflets in the area which express an interest in purchasing such items.
