The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Lib Dems call for Bedford Borough Council to say 'No to ID'

Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats are calling on the new unitary Council to say no to ID Cards. In a motion to be debated at a meeting of the Council next week, the Lib Dems are demanding that the Council declares its opposition to the Government's plans for a national ID card and accompanying database. The motion also calls on the council to pledge that it will not take part in any trial schemes and that local residents will not be required to hold an ID card in order to access council services, unless this is required by law.

Support the petition against proposed DIY store on Triangle leisure centre site

The planning application for a proposed Homebase on part of the Triangle leisure centre site is ill-founded and unjustified - there is no demonstrative need for this development, which is an overdevelopment of the location, and conflicts with the existing planning policies for the Triangle site and for the town.

Succession to the Crown

I am surprised in this modern day that someone should believe that love should follow religious or political dictat rather than the heart. Reverend Sylvia Bareham in her contribution to the June Church Newsletter has presented an intelligent and articulate argument against the Monarch being allowed to marry a Catholic, but there are other issues that she has skirted around which perhaps need also to be addressed.
