Congleton Campaigner Simon Davey has praised the work and commitment of North West colleague Chris Davies who resigned as Leader of LDEPP yesterday (May 4th, 2006).
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Lib Dems substantially increased their share of the vote in yesterday's Local Elections. What turned out to be a good night for the Tories and a devastating night for Labour revealed a consolidation of the Lib Dem position in Local Government and showed the country that 3 party politics is here to stay. The Liberal Democrats took a bigger share of the vote than the Labour party, a resounding message that the next General Election is more likely than ever to result in a hung parliament.
