A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Coffee and cake for a good cause

Jamie Oliver might think the nation can't cook but let me tell you, we certainly can bake! I went to some of the Macmillan Coffee Mornings being held around our area this morning and there were some great cakes to have with your cup of coffee, fundraisers had clearly made a huge effort and the coffee mornings I went to were well attended so the effort seemed to have paid off. A beautifully detailed iced cake being raffled at the hospital was really a work of art!

HGV Ban - Legal Advice Highlights Tory County Council Failure

Legal advice has vindicated a Liberal Democrat decision to halt the implementation of a weight restriction which banned HGV's in some North Bedfordshire Villages, after it was revealed that the former Tory County Council failed to meet a string of lawful procedures for the implementation of the scheme. They did not meet requirements for signs to be in place by the time any such Order comes into force, and also failed to follow requirements that letters be sent to all those who objected to the scheme. Apparently funds were not even in place for the scheme until months after the Order was made.
