A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Post Office Closures must stop

Over the last two years more than ten local Post Offices have closed. My team and I have been extensively involved in fighting these closures. Some of the hardest hit have been pensioners who relied on their local Post Office to get their pension. More than that, the weekly visit to the Post Office added to their quality of life. Despite massive public protest and petitions, the Post Office drove the closures through. Their argument was that shutting these local offices was vital if the main network was to survive.

Liberal Democrat Action Day

The Windsor Liberal Democrats met with strong support on their action day in Windsor Town on Tuesday 16th November. Former Tory MEP John Stevens, who is now a Liberal Democrat, travelled from Devon to support Antony Wood's bid to become the next MP for the Windsor constituency. While canvassing in Clewer East Ward he said "The Liberal Democrats are a growing force here. When we knock on the door, people are pleased to hear from the Liberal Democrats. What they are crying out for is a hard working and energetic MP who really understands local issues, and that's why I think Antony Wood should be Windsor's next representative in Parliament."
