A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

"Lansley living in cloud cuckoo land over NHS cuts" says Lamb

Commenting ahead of Andrew Lansley's speech on the NHS to the Conservative Party conference yesterday, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb said "An enormous amount of public money has been wasted on unnecessary bureaucracy in the NHS but any cuts to NHS budgets must be managed with extreme caution. Andrew Lansley is living in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks he can wield an axe to Primary Care Trust budgets without it leading to cuts in frontline staff"

Downland Housing Association in latest mega merger mania

Whilst the dedication and enthusiasm of Downland Housing Association staff in promoting resident involvement and discussing issues in an open and honest way is clearly evident, gaps still exist in some areas of practice as the association is merged yet again to become the more nationally focused Affinity Sutton Housing Association. The former Mid Sussex Housing Association which took over the local district councils housing stock was subsumed within the larger organisation, and a series of mergers has led to this latest national merger of housing associations.
