A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

The 10:10 Campaign is backed by the Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat parliamentary front benches and is also supported by many councils and significant organisations such as Microsoft, O2 and NHS Trusts.

Robin Lawrence backs Nick Clegg's stand on McKinnon extradition

Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg has called on the Prime Minister and Home Secretary to "do the right thing" and block the extradition of computer hacker Gary McKinnon.Mr Clegg accused ministers of "hiding behind weasel-worded legal excuses" and demanded that they intervene in the case. Mr McKinnon has been denied leave to appeal to the new UK Supreme Court against his extradition to the US. He has admitted hacking into 97 US government computers, including those of Nasa and the Pentagon but he insists he was looking for evidence of UFOs. US authorities want to try him under anti-terrorism laws which carry a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison.
