The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

MP raises threat to Westmorland General heart unit in House of Commons debate

Local MP Tim Farron raised the threat to the Westmorland General Hospital's heart unit in a debate on the floor of the House of Commons this afternoon. Tim used the debate on health to point out that while up to £30 billion is being wasted on the excessive and unfinished 'Connecting for Health' computer system, the Coronary Care Unit at the Westmorland General is under threat because the Hospitals Trust is being forced to seek cuts.

Release of Single Farm Payments welcomed - but concerns expressed about interest on stop-gap loans

Local MP and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hill Farming, Tim Farron, has welcomed today's announcement by new DEFRA minister David Miliband that 85% of Single Farm Payments will be made by the end of the week. However, Mr Farron remains critical of the length of time it has taken to make these payments, and is concerned that many local farmers have had to shoulder the cost of commercial loans as a stop gap while waiting for their Single Farm Payments.

Thank you Focus for Park ward

Park Ward Liberal Democrats have started to deliver a "Thank You" Focus across the Ward. Voters are thanked for turning out to vote in the election on 4th May in which the Lib Dem candidate, Robin Lawrence, shot up from third place to 128 votes of winning. Robin has vowed to continue to work in Park throughout the year.
