Save our green belt
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Counter-terrorism Bill debated - 42 days remain unacceptable
The Government's Counter-Terrorism Bill was being debated by MPs yesterday. Speaking at his monthly press conference Gordon Brown said the proposed changes would not mean a "blanket extension to 42 days" on the pre-charge limit for holding suspects.

Mayor-elect tries to get health campaigner sacked!
Senior Lib Dems in Rochdale have slammed Mayor-elect Councillor Robin Parker for trying to get Councillor Jean Ashworth sacked from her job. The Lib Dems have reported Councillor Parker to the Standards Board of England under Sections 5 and 6 of the Local Authorities (Model Code of Conduct) Order 2007. Councillor Parker has been involved in a concerted effort to get Councillor Ashworth sacked from her position as a nurse at Rochdale Infirmary. He emailed health bosses citing the case of Karen Reissman, who was sacked last year for criticising mental health provision in Manchester.
