Local Lib Dems claim victory for their campaign for funding for a pool in Marple. After waves of support from the community and pressure from Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate Lisa Smart and her local and parliamentary colleagues, the Government finally gave in to the demands and agreed a £20 million budget for a new centre in today's budget.
Thanks to the more than 1,100 people who signed the petition and supported the campaign to deliver this much needed project for the community, the funding will provide a swimming pool, library, fitness studio, community spaces and new cycling and walking routes.
Celebrating the victory, Lisa Smart said:
"This shows just what we can achieve when we all work together to deliver for our area. I am so pleased for the people of Marple, and for the Lib Dem councillors who worked so hard to make this happen. Thank you so much for your support - and watch this space as concrete plans will be announced."
