Lisa Smart with Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey

Rail services on the Rose Hill line

When Northern Trains annoucned a temporary 3 month close of the Rose-Hill–Manchester rail line, Lisa launched a petiton against the plans by the end of the day.

Over 5,700 people backed the campaign by signing Lisa's petition, which was submitted to Northern. Lisa and the team also wrote to the transport secretary, brough Lib Dem leader Ed Davey to speak to the Friends of Rose Hill, and Lord Andrew Stunell submitted two Parliamentary Questions.

Lisa even secured an agreement in principle for Stockport Council to fund a train service on the Rose Hill rail line to show Northern and the Conservative Government that it could be done.

Lisa Smart said: “I am delighted to see that our pressure made the government see sense and exercise the power it had all along to require Northern to continue to deliver a much needed service on this vital line.

“Whilst it is disappointing that the full service will not be delivered, this is far better than what we were facing only a few weeks ago. Along with my Lib Dem colleagues in Marple and Woodley I will continue to campaign for a return to the full service as soon as possible.”
