Extra banking services on the way in Marple

Following pressure from parliamentary candidate Lisa Smart, and questions from Andrew Stunell to the treasury in parliament, Link have confirmed that Cash Access are currently carrying out a site survey ahead of introducing a new deposit service in Marple.

With over 60 per cent of banking services in the constituency having been lost in recent years, Lisa and a number of local councillors have been fighting for additional support to stop isolated people from losing out.

Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate Lisa Smart said: “We have seen time and again, services get whittled away, until people are left having to travel miles for banking services which are critical for local residents, pensioners, businesses – all the people who make this a community.

“We have long been campaigning for new services in Marple, and recently my colleagues Dan Willis in Bredbury and Woodley, and Frankie Singleton in Hazel Grove, have gone to Link to raise the same issues in their areas.”

There have been long delays in Link introducing banking services across the country; while over 100 sites have been recommended by Link, those with services introduced only recently reached double figures.

Lisa added: “It is vital that this is not just an empty promise, which is why we have been continuing to talk to Link about the deposit service in Marple, and push for a date for when it will be open.

“As a team, we put the community first, because that’s at the core of our values. That is why you see Liberal Democrats from the Lords, to the commons, to the councillors fighting for the same thing – what our communities need.”
