A New Leisure Centre for Offerton

In Offerton we have been without a permanent, fit-for-purpose leisure centre for almost a decade. The centre we have been using at the old Offerton High School site is unwelcoming, leaky, cold...and past the date of its expected life-end.

Despite the poor facilities unwelcoming site and limited activity offers, usage of the outdated centre is still good; showing residents in Offerton value the chance to stay fit and healthy, and to socialise. Imagine how many people of all ages and backgrounds would use the facilities if they were of a good standard.

We have been told to wait until the future of the GMSF was determined before we could move forward. That has now happened and we are keen to get a new leisure centre back on the agenda so that we can help our residents get the leisure facilities they deserve.

We are currently speaking to officers at the council outline the case to prioritise Offerton 1) for a short term fix to the current centre, and 2) for a new centre in the medium term. It would be great if we could give them another strong measurement of the strength of feeling in the community with this petition signed by as many residents as possible.
