Andrew Stunell MP & Lisa Smart, Prospective MP for Hazel Grove, have warmly welcomed the further drop in Stockport unemployment in last month’s official figures, released this week.  These confirm that over 400 more people have a job in the Hazel Grove constituency now than a year ago, and that 2 million apprenticeships have been created country-wide since 2010.

Commenting, Lisa Smart, Prospective MP for Hazel Grove, said –

“To have well over 400 more people in a job in Hazel Grove than this time last year is a huge achievement.  In addition to this we’ve seen youth unemployment in Stockport halve since 2010 and nationally we have created 2 million apprenticeships, giving young people an invaluable route into their chosen profession.”

“However we are not stopping there, we want more people in jobs and more apprenticeships for young people.  I know Stockport Council are continuing to push apprenticeships and will be hosting an event, during National Apprenticeship Week, to help more of our young people get into an apprenticeship and start their promising career.”

“From my own experience, I know how valuable apprentices can be.  I took on my own apprentice, Conor, over a year ago now and he’s been a great addition to the team.  I’d strongly urge any employer to consider the benefits taking on an apprentice could bring.”

Andrew Stunell MP said –

“We’ve given a huge boost to apprenticeships in the last four years, almost doubling the rate of recruitment under Labour, with 11,000 in Stockport alone.  That is good news for the young people concerned, but also excellent news for their employers as the skills-base in the town grows.”

National Apprenticeship Week will run from 9th-13th March, more details on this can be found via the following link –
