Defibrillators save lives. They increase survival rates for an ‘out of hospital’ cardiac arrest from 6% to 74% if used within 3 minutes.
Over the summer, the cardiac arrest suffered by Christian Eriksen during Euro 2020 showed just how important they are to cutting heart related deaths. An average of 30,000 people a year suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) can help bring them back.
We want to make sure residents across our area have the best possible chance of survival if the worst happens.
We are calling on Stockport Council to:
- Increase access to defibrillators across the borough
- Set up an interactive map of defibrillators so that people can easily find the closest one to them
- Make sure AEDs are available in Council-owned spaces such as parks, community centres, leisure facilities, town and village centres.
